About Jiangyin

Located on the southern bank of Yangtze River, Jiangyin City is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Wuxi that is one of thirteen prefecture-level cities of Jiangsu Province. The land, nicknamed 'Shade of River' in Chinese, has a history of human civilization more than 5,000 years, tracking back to the New Stone Age. In past 2,500 years, the ancient town had frequent name changes along with the change of dynasties. Those used names include Donghai, Hailing, Wuling, etc.

Geography and Climate

Under the jurisdiction of Wuxi, Jiangyin city is located on the southern bank of Yangtze River, holding three major bodies of water including two rivers and a lake. The city borders Yangtze River and Qingjiang city on the north, two cities of Changsu and Zhangjiagang on the east, and Wuxi on the south.

Geography and Climate

Geographically, Jiangyin lies on the Southern Jiangsu Plain and is crisscrossed by numerous rivers and lakes, including Yangtze River on its north, the Grand Canal, Lake Shaobai and other 550 rivers/irrigation canals in total. The national resources mainly include agriculture and fishery.

Jiangyin has a maritime monsoon climate, with distinct four seasons. The annual average temperature is 16.7°C around. The annual precipitation is close 1,000 mm. The so-called Mei Yu season, meaning 'humid and rainfall abundant' in Chinese, only last about 2-3 weeks. The city has 239 days free of frost.
