Brief Introduction

As an important export-oriented industry, textile and garment industry is one of the pillar industries of Jiangyin city, enjoying a very important position in Wuxi Municipality, Jiangsu Province and China. Being one of the first ten bases of textile industry, Jiangyin textile and garment industry is among the '100 best industry clusters in China', winning the title of 'China's fine textile enterprise cluster'.

In recent years, Jiangyin light and textile industry has been designated by provincial bureau of business administration and provincial association of patent as 'breeding base of brands of industry clusters'. And the provincial ministry of finance and provincial ministry of commerce have recognized Jiangyin as 'the exporting base of fabrics and garment products' in Jiangsu province.

In 2010, reaping in an output value of RMB 112.6 billion, all above-a-certain-production- scale textile companies in Jiangyin textile industry accounted for 1/5 of the total industrial output value of the whole city, seeing an annual increase of 13.8%. The sales income of these companies has reached RMB 110.9 billion, enjoying an annual growth of 17.52%, while the sum of tax and profit has totalled 8.01 RMB billion, increasing 26.7% annually. Also, the industry has reported the worth of $ 2.524 billion in the exporting of garment products, of which, $ 0.882 billion was contributed by exporting of garment products, an annul growth of about 34.21%.

As the largest industry cluster, the textile industry in now concentrated in and around several towns. Among them, Gusan Town, the industry base of knitted underwear and knitted apparel, boasts Yunfu Investment and Stock-controlling Co. Ltd. which is one of the most competitive brands in the line of knitted woolen garment. Zhutang Town, known as the No. 1 exporting town in Yangtze River Delta, enjoys highly developed knitted garment industry. Crowning them all is Xingqiao Town, which boasts Yangguan Group, the world's largest producer of high-grade worsted woolen fabric and garment, and Hailan Group, which is China's largest producer of high-grade male apparel. In 2010, the number of above-a-certain- scale garment factories and companies has reached 175 with a total production capacity of 0.38 billion pieces. And up to 228 companies have successfully exported their products abroad.
